| SPARKS ~ SECOND GENERATION Part 2 |
| 7. Mary Ann SPARKS was born in 1858 in Somerset, England, and died 30 Apr 1935 in Geneva, New York. Actually, Mary Ann is a woman of mystery. Her death registration gives her birthdate as 1 Dec 1854, her headstone says 1860 and her marriage and cenus info place her birth year between 1858 and 1861. I guess a trip to BDM is needed. Three years previous to her death she had suffered a stroke which left her left side paralysed. 5 days before her death, she suffered a "third shock" which left her generally paralysed. She also suffered from hypertension. She died at home. Mary Ann married Eleazer F CRANDALL jr, son of EF CRANDALL and Myriah BALLET (or Violet WILSON) on 29 Oct 1884 in Phelps, Ontario County, New York. Eleazer (both of them, really) was also known as Ebenezer, and that name is on his death registration. There is confusion at the moment about the name of his birth mother. We feel EF may have married Violet later on. More work to be done here (Aug 8/03). Eleazer was born in 1848 in Phelps, New York, and died 6 Mar 1902 just north of Geneva on The Dove Farm. He had pneumonia. After Eleazer died, Mary Ann moved into Geneva to 49 Gates Avenue with her 3 children. The boys opened a garage at 49 1/2 Gates Avenue. Their children were: + 30 F i. Minnie Myrtle CRANDALL was born on 23 Apr 1887 in Oaks Corners, New York, and died 12 Feb 1917 of Puerperal Septicemia following an "abortion". Minnie lost all but one of her children, all before the age of 2 years. She died at the home of her mother, and had been ill for more than a month before her death. Minnie married William W LAWS, son of William LAWS and Eliza MILLER, on 28 Dec, 1904 in Geneva, New York. William was born 30 Dec 1877 in Geneva, New York, and died in Geneva General Hospital on 9 Sept 1927 of Chronic Intestinal Nephritis. At that time he was married to his second wife, Minnie HILKERT. Both are buried with their respective families. + 31 M ii. Wallace CRANDALL was born C 1892 in Oaks Corners, New York. His date of death is unknown, but I have located one Wallace CRANDALL who fits the bill. This man died in Corinth, Saratoga, New York. He was born 13 Oct 1891 and died Jan 1978. More research is needed here (Aug 8/03). Wallace married Louise NORTHRUP, daughter of Clark NORTHRUP and Anna STRIKER, on 19 Feb 1914 in Geneva, New York. Louise was born C 1897 in Earl's Station, New York. Her date of death is unknown and my only lead through the SSDI is a Louise CRANDALL born 21 May 1894 and died Wellsburg, Chemung, New York in Jan 1981. It seems Louise's mother may have remarried a man named COOK. I will follow this up at some point. + 32 M iii. Charles H CRANDALL was born 24 Mar 1893 in Oaks Corners, New York, and died 15 Apr 1966 in Geneva, New York. Charles married Hattie May HARTMAN, daughter of William HARTMAN and Emma COBB, on 12 Nov, 1912 in Geneva, New York. Witnesses were Charles's brother, Wallace, and Hattie's sister, Myrtle K. Hattie was born 24 Sept, 1894 in Illinois, and died 27 Feb 1979 in Geneva, New York. Both are buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva. More work is needed to follow Hattie's line (Aug 8/03) 8. Sarah Jane SPARKS was born 11 Oct, 1860 in Kenn, Somerset, England, and died 4 Nov 1942 in Portageville, New York. Sarah Jane married Richard Walter NOBLE, son of Hannah SMITH, and adopted son of George NOBLE, on 11 July 1882 in New York state. Richard Walter was born 20 July 1857 in England, and died 14 Mar, 1920 in Clyde, New York. Sarah Jane had 13 children, and by 1917 she looked every second of it. More information to come soon on this couple (Aug 8/03). Their children were: + 33 M i. William Ian NOBLE was born Mar 1879 in England. At this writing, his date of death is not known. William was not the natural child of Richard Walter, but was raised as his own. In the 1881 Chew Magna English census, John and Eleanor SPARKS have a 2 year old grandson named George living with them. In the previous year, Sarah Jane is listed as 19, single, and keeping house for the Cass family in Geneva. This is 2 doors over from her brother Henry's house. Little William is nowhere to be found. I find it entirely possible that she left her son with her father while she came to work. Indentured housekeepers hired from England were not allowed to have families. All her other siblings were already in North America, with the exception of her half sister Emma, who at age 4 was not quite old enough to be a mother to little George. William married Margaret FERGUSON. No other information is known at this point (8 Aug/03) + 34 M ii. George H NOBLE was born Jul 1883 in Seneca County, New York, and died in 1952 in New York state. George married Mary SMITH. Mary was born 28 Nov 1886, and died May 1969 in Clyde, Wayne County, New York. Mary was murdered by her son, Thomas. + 35 M iii. Thomas Frederick NOBLE was born 14 Jan 1885 in Seneca County, New York, and died 13 Mar 1970 in Lyons, New York. + 36 M iv. James Edward NOBLE was born Sep 1886 in Ontario County, New York. + 37 M v. Charles L NOBLE was born Jul 1888 in Ontario County, New York. + 38 M vi. Albert C NOBLE was born 9 Jun 1890 in Seneca County, New York. + 39 F vii. Daisy A NOBLE was born Jul 1892 in Ontario County, New York. (I think I look like her). + 40 F viii. Sarah Lillian NOBLE was born 11 Nov 1893 in Seneca County, New York. In 1900 she is 6 and her birth date is given as October, so I am wondering if, perhaps, her baptism was in November. + 41 F ix. Edith M NOBLE was born Apr 1895 in Ontario County, New York. Edith married Holley WILLIAMS in Ontario County in 1914. + 42 M x. Frances W NOBLE was born Jun 1896 in Ontario County, New York. + 43 F xi. Mary E NOBLE was born Sep 1898 in Ontario County, New York. She was known as Mamie. + 44 F xii. Alice G NOBLE was born May 1900 in Geneva, New York. Alice married Carl W MACK on 13 Oct 1931 in Ontario County, New York. + 45 M xiii. Alfred NOBLE was born 1902 in Geneva, New York. 9. Elizabeth SPARKS was born 26 November, 1865 in Cleeve, Yatton, Somerset, England, and died 30 Aug 1920 in Buffalo, New York. Elizabeth married Albert Edward MINNS, son of Samuel MINNS and Anna Maria VINCE/VINCENT, on 6 Jul 1888 in Geneva, New York. Albert was born 1 Oct 1868 in Geneva, New York, and died 14 Feb 1939 in Buffalo New York. Both he and Elizabeth are buried with their daughter Marion in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York. Elizabeth came over at a very young age with her brother, Henry. He left her in New York with the WOODWORTH family while he went back to marry Hannah. Elizabeth is listed with that family in the 1875 state census. She was 8. Albert and Elizabeth moved to Syracuse a few years after their marriage. They spent a short time there, then moved on to Rochester, where they lived for a short period of time before finally moving to Buffalo. They lived in several locations within the city of Buffalo, finally ending up in a house at 151 High Street. Their children were: + 46 F i. Jennie Bell MINNS was born 25 May 1889 in Geneva, New York, and died 19 Aug 1968. I have yet to confirm this information. + 47 M ii. George Samuel MINNS was born 3 Aug 1890 in Geneva, New York, and died 10 Oct 1973 in Palm Beach, Florida. George married Laura PIM, daughter of Mary A and An Unknown PIM, in Buffalo before 1910. Laura was born 16 Oct 1888 in Buffalo, New York, and died 21 Feb 1980 in Martin, Florida. + 48 iii. Mabel May MINNS was born 10 Dec 1891 in Syracuse, New York, and died 1988. + 49 iv. Harriet was named after her dad's sister. + 51 vi. Laura J MINNS was born 5 July 1899 in Buffalo, New York, and died 5 Jan 1992 in Getzville, Erie, New York. This information is from her SSDI information. She did not have a married name, and I am assuming that she did not marry. + 52 vii. Frank S MINNS was born 14 June 1901 and died 15 June 1901 on Rhode Island Street in Buffalo, New York. He did not marry. (Duh) Frank was named after his father's two brothers. +53 viii. Alice Maria MINNS was born 16 Oct 1902 on Rhode Island Street in Buffalo, New York and died 27 Sep 1966 in Buffalo, New York. This information is verified by her SSDI. I am assuming she did not marry as her maiden name was on the SS register. + 54 ix. Marion Elizabeth MINNS was born 4 Oct 1903 on Rhode Island Street in Buffalo, New York, and died 13 Jul 1921 in Buffalo. She did not marry. She is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo. + 55 x. Albert E MINNS jr, was born 13 Mar 1907 in Buffalo, New York, and died 4 Dec 1996 in Niagara, New York. Albert married Nordy E CHRISTENSEN 2 Aug 1931. Albert was a Colonel in the US army, and listed in Who's Who on many occasions. More work is needed to get details sorted (Aug 8/03) 10. Emma Eliza Annie SPARKS was born 28 Jun 1876 in Bedminster, Somerset, England, and died of Myocardial Infarction and Generalized Arterial Sclerosis on 20 Aug 1952 in Fayette, Seneca County, New York. Emma married Albert ANDERSEN C 1898 in Geneva, New York. Albert was born June 1873 in Denmark, and died 12 March 1948 in Fayette, New York. Both are buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva. Emma was the only child of John and Eleanor SPARKS. She came to New York in 1888 with her mother - presumably to attend the wedding of her sister, Elizabeth. Her father had died the previous year in England. She and her mother stayed on in New York. Their children were: + 56 F i. Annie ANDERSEN was born Jan 1900 in Geneva, New York. Annie had a daughter (seemingly out of wedlock) named Eleanor ANDERSEN. This is not confirmed. + 57 M ii. William A ANDERSEN was born C 1902 in Geneva, New York. He was still living with his family in 1930. Not much more is known about him at this time. More investigation is needed. + 58 M iii. Robert ANDERSEN was born C 1905 in Geneva, New York. nothing else is known about him at this point. More investigation is needed. He was not listed with his family in 1930. |
