Eat Here In Michigan ~ Food of the Gods
Lansing Area
| The Lansing Archives (see Archives Pages) is the archival dump for all of Michigan - doesn't that sound PUR-DY?) It is a lovely building, in actuality. Pay no attention to the woman behind the curtain. I stayed at The Red Roof Inn (see Where To Stay pages) which was close to the Archives as well as being close to some VERY fine places to chow down. | The Genghis Grill ~ This place is wonderful! Entirely too underappreciated. Here is the idea: Get a bowl, put in your meat, then some seasonings (meat is a choice of anything from seafoods to sausage, to fowl, to beef pork and lamb), then some veggies, then some additives, then sauces. My best was bits of beef with mixed veg (green and red peppers and onion), cilantro and various seasonings - no sauce. I put LOTS of cilantro on, and I think I had extra meat. WOW! All you can eat was 12.99, and one bowl was 8.99. Take it to the cook, who cooks it in front of you, and puts it on your choice of rice or noodles. VERY delicious! The Genghis Grill is in the Lansing Mall at 5266 West Saginaw. Right across from: |
Panera Bread ~ This place has a wide variety of soup, sandwich, and salad assortments. While the prices are a bit higher than I would like to see, the servings and quality of food REALLY make up for it. The bread varieties are wonderful! YUM! This place is also in the Mall on Saginaw.
Old Country Buffet ~ One of the greatest things EVER about the United States is that they have all you can eat buffet places EVERYWHERE. This place has a huge variety of salads, soups, meats, and things you likely shouldn't eat like desserts (go ahead, try the chocolate pudding cake.. Good Golly! I burned my thumb on it, but MAN it was good!) and fried things. I saw so many people eating chicken, cornbread stuffing, and potatoes with gravy, it wasn't even FUNNY (ok, yes it was). I LOVE variety, and I like to have as much or as little of what I want to eat. THIS is the place to do that. And do you know how much it was per person for lunch??? 6.89.. 6.89!!!!!! Sigh. Goddess Bless America. This particular location is at 5002 West Saginaw in Lansing. It's well back from the road, but the sign is pretty visible.
Fazoli's ~ Fazoli's is a McDonald's for pasta lovers. Only the food is better. My favourite was the Twiced Baked Z?iti. You can get salads and soups as well, and they have an all you can eat Spaghetti deal. My Ziti was about 5.00, but that was a higher priced item. You get all you can drink, and all you can consume garlic sticks - which are pretty yummy. Seating is comfortable, and the place is nicely lit. I ate there a few times. 5066 Saginaw Highway (West Saginaw). There is another Lansing location.
There IS more to come - I've just started this page. In the meantime, if you know of any good places OR bad places to eat in Michigan (near archives or genealogical libraries), please let me know.
Longhorn Steakhouse ~ Ok, so I don't know if Jackson, Michigan has an Archive. I went there to go to an antique shop, but they DO have this steakhouse. I only wish computers had surround-taste so you could try this food. It is truly wonderful... and LOTS of it. It's going to cost you more than 6.89, but WOW! You will love it. Jackson is about 30 to 40 minutes south of Lansing. 3510 O'Neill Road.
